Join the English Department as we brush off our writing skills and get ready for the new school year!  This course meets two hours each day Monday-Friday and is designed for incoming 5th and 6th graders who want to improve their writing and become more familiar with the key features of The Oakridge School’s writing curriculum.  We will spend the week reviewing key writing skills, applying these skills, and learning strategies to utilize these skills in future writing assignments.  All students will receive a resource booklet to use during the class and as a writing reference during the school year.

Gr. 5-6 Reading Workshop

1:45-3:45 PM

Claire Reddig

This session is designed for 5th and 6th graders who would like to tackle one of their summer reading books with the guidance of a Middle School English teacher.  We will spend our time together reading and discussing the book and using our discussions to reinforce active reading strategies students will be able to use during the school year.  If time permits, we will complete short writing assignments designed to practice basic literary analysis skills.  Most of the book will be read during the class, but students may be asked to read some of the book at home during the week.  The title of the book we will read and discuss is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. A copy of the book is provided.
