Greetings fellow OWLS!
I am so excited to be the Oakridge Parents' Club (OPC) President for this upcoming school year. I have to confess that in the beginning I was scared to death to take on this role as OPC President. As a full-time working mom of two I couldn’t imagine what it would take to make all this happen, but all of my concerns were washed away as soon as I became part of the OPC and saw first-hand how wonderful it is to be a member of this community of families, teachers and staff.
First, I want to welcome all new incoming families to The Oakridge School. I remember my family’s first year at Oakridge, fourteen years ago, and I can’t believe my boys are now in 2nd grade and a sophomore in college! Time really does fly by!
The OPC is an integral part of The Oakridge School family. Not only do we host fun events during the school year, such as Owlfest, Book Fair, Holiday Treasurers, After Prom, Holiday Parties and Faculty and Staff Luncheons, we also provide funds back to the campus. In fact, last year, we provided $50,000 back to the campus to help support each of the divisions with things like flexible classroom seating, park benches, charging stations, digital equipment, etc….We even provided a new skeleton for the Science Department.
But all of this takes the hard work and dedication from our parents and community members. Each one of us has different skills, talents, and resources that are desperately needed to make The Oakridge School what it is today. For some it is volunteering in our classrooms. For others, it is heading up or joining a committee that brings something special to our students. We need the help and support of everyone but more importantly we want you to know we welcome and appreciate your help and support. Whether it’s donating an hour of your time or chairing a committee, no amount of time or skills goes unappreciated. So I hope you’ll consider reaching out and getting involved this year.
As I close, my final hoorah is to bring you up to date on our OPC FUNdraising efforts. As I mentioned earlier, the OPC takes pride in the amount we are able to allocate back to the school each year. Usually, this amount is determined by our Magazine Sales FUNdraiser. This year however, we are launching new initiatives and we will no longer be participating in Magazine Sales. I hope you will continue your support of the OPC FUNdraiser as we launch this year’s Boosterthon program! In the Boosterthon program, all students from ECC through UHMS get to run in their Division's Fun Run, there’s a jaw-dropping character theme ready to go, and families can easily get pledges to help our school. It’s fun, it’s easy and all we need is your support!
Thank you in advance for your time and support this year and please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything.
