The Oakridge School has been named a 2018 winner of the Side-Out Foundation’s national Dig Pink® movement, which raises money for stage IV breast cancer research. The 2018 installment of Dig Pink® featured more than 750 campaigns and raised more than $1.2 million. Oakridge's contribution totaled nearly $17,500.
In all, five winners were named for each raising more than $10,000 last year. They include:
- Randolph High School (Randolph, MN)
- Riverside High School (Leesburg, VA)
- The Oakridge School (Arlington, TX)
- Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart (Miami, FL)
- Massapequa High School (Massapequa, NY)
The top fundraising team will receive its own set of Dig Pink® safety pads, courtesy of Sports Imports. A Dig Pink® net tape will be sent to the next four fundraising teams. Read more at https://side-out.org/foundation-news/2018-sports-imports-winners/.
Through Dig Pink®, the Side-Out Foundation hopes that young athletes learn the value and importance of giving back to the community, working as a team, and taking initiative to get involved. Oakridge’s Pink Out was led by the Volleyball team and had as its theme: “Love Pink Bleed Blue.” Events such as bake sales, a balloon release, and t-shirt sales were held in conjunction with volleyball, field hockey, and football games throughout October 2018. All of the proceeds benefitted the Side-Out Foundation.
Congratulations to the Oakridge volleyball team and Coach June Boller on a job well-done!
