Jim Andersen, Head of Upper School

Dec. 9, 2022

Dear Upper School Parents,

“Never get tired of doing little things for others; sometimes those little things occupy the biggest parts of their hearts.” - unknown

Mrs. Wiseman’s sewing class helped prepare the US Team with their winter wonderland costumes for Angel Tree week, and students enjoyed hot cocoa as they continued their week of service projects.

In this email:

  • Christmas Cheer

  • Checkpoint Grade 2.3 & Final Exams

  • Model UN informational letter

  • Upcoming Dates/Parent Reminders

  • December calendar with exam schedule

Holiday Cheer to all!! We are grateful for the response to the Angel Tree project this year and Rankin Wish Lists. Student Council President, Catherine Wang, will deliver a check on our behalf to the Salvation Army Angel Tree for $3,324. Next week, Key Club will visit Rankin Elementary with toys and supplies for their kindergarten students. We are proud that our students choose to participate and make a difference in the lives of others.

CHECKPOINT GRADE 2.3 posted on Wednesday, December 7. This will be the last snapshot of progress before exams. Please have your child reach out to any teachers if necessary. The final exam schedule with specific testing location details may be accessed here. The buses have two departure times next week (12:30 and 3:30). Students are in uniforms during exam week. They only need to be at school for their scheduled exams. Friday, December 16, is a scheduled make-up day for students for exams missed throughout the week.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

On January 4-6, 2023, the Oakridge School United Nations Team will travel to San Antonio, Texas. Our 23 delegates will participate in the Model United Nations San Antonio Conference XXVII, representing the United States of America and Iran as delegates to the UN and a few historical and world leaders. Students truly benefit from participating in Model United Nations. The discussion, debate, and exposure they encounter on this trip provide an enriching experience and additional knowledge as they move toward university study. Since this event occurs right when we all return from the winter break, we would like to provide you with some additional information about the trip and event, which you will find in the letter linked above.

SPRING SEMESTER PREPARATION

It is important to discuss with your child checking their portals, checking their emails, and having their “HOOT” notifications turned on. These are our primary forms of communication, and it will be their responsibility to stay on top of information concerning them as we prepare for the next semester. Preparations will include students needing to complete a form for seminar selections, using the form if they wish to request a schedule change, and keeping up with their exam schedule and grades/GPA as the first semester closes.

PARENTS HELP US REMINDERS:

  • Please follow our security procedures for parents on campus, students arriving late, students needing to leave campus early, and student drivers. Parents must check in at the front desk, and students must check in at the US office.
  • Parents need to notify the US office when a student will be absent for a day. Students need to notify their teachers.
  • The Oakridge School has a closed campus for lunch. This is for your child’s safety and plays an important role in our safety and emergency plans. While we understand that your child needs to be checked out occasionally for appointments, please do not allow your child to be checked out for lunch.

Parent Remind Hoot please join now. This is a great way to receive updates and reminders.

The Oakridge School calendar: save the dates of all these important events.
