Dear Oakridge Family,

I have to tell you, as I stood in the quad during this week’s choir and orchestra concert, I was struck by the beauty and spirit of the evening. It wasn’t just the music, though that was spectacular—it was the sense of joy and community that made it truly special. Seeing our students perform, many of whom I’ve had the privilege of watching grow and thrive in different areas of school life, was a powerful reminder of what makes Oakridge such an exceptional place.

One of the standout moments of the evening was the debut of an original orchestra piece composed by one of our very own students, sophomore Luana Marquez Shimono. Yes, you read that correctly, a sophomore composed an original score of music, and it was played, quite beautifully, at a concert in front of hundreds of people. This level of creativity and initiative exemplifies the core of The Oakridge School’s mission: to inspire each student to seek their full potential. The composition beautifully demonstrated not only our students' technical skills but also their ability to think critically and express themselves artistically—a perfect reflection of the challenging and nurturing environment we strive to provide.

What was also remarkable about this concert was how many of the students involved are not just dedicated to fine arts, but are also student-athletes and accomplished scholars. In front of our eyes were not just vocalists and instrumental musicians, but there were also students who we cheer for on our fields, courses, and courts. There were members of the Key Club, school mascots, leaders of the Student Council, members of the National Honor Society, and National Merit Commended Scholars. Above all, before us was not just the present of Oakridge, but the future leaders and scholars of our world. These students are the embodiment of our commitment to fostering individuals who excel in academics, athletics, and the arts. The concert showcased their ability to balance these diverse passions, all while exemplifying personal integrity and mutual respect both on and off the stage.

The evening was a testament to the richness of the Oakridge experience, where students are encouraged to explore their interests and passions, challenge themselves, and celebrate their unique talents. I could not be prouder of our students and faculty for putting together such an inspiring performance.

Thank you to everyone who made this evening possible, and thank you to the entire Oakridge community for continuing to support and nurture the growth of our students in every aspect of their lives.

With deep appreciation,
