2024-25 Matt Burgy, Head of School
August 9, 2024
Dear Oakridge Family,
I hope your summer has been filled with excitement and relaxation! For those of you new to Oakridge, this weekly communication is your “one-stop shop” for all things Oakridge. In addition to my letter, you will see a letter from each Division Head (Early Childhood, Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools) and links to important information. As a school that is palpably connected to each other, I want to encourage you to read our Enews in its entirety.
While the pace has been slower, the summer months are a vibrant time at the Oakridge School. Summer camps and readiness classes have kept our students and faculty busy. We have engaged as a faculty and staff in a reading of The Anxious Generation. If you have not read it, I would encourage you to do so. The data that it provides on the current state of childhood is enlightening. You will see that theme run through many of my messages this year.
In addition to the bustling energy, the summer is also a great time for campus projects to be completed. When you come back to campus you will see a number of upgrades, the largest being a new PA System. This new system has greater communication capacities than our old one and aligns with our upgraded security measures. Additionally, we are excited to announce the launch of our new school portal, Veracross. Veracross will serve as a comprehensive platform for managing all your child’s school-related information and activities and has been chosen to enhance our communication and provide a seamless experience for our school community. As well, we completed the 1st phase of the Elias C. Hernandez Brick Walkway at the Oakridge Athletic Complex. To say it has been a busy summer is an understatement!
In addition to our many enhancements to the campus, we also have a few changes to our staff. I am excited that Marissa Desjardins Cox has transitioned to serve as our Auxiliary Programs Coordinator. Marissa will oversee the continued development of a more robust Summer Program as well as coordinate After School and Extended Care programming as we bring those functions back to Oakridge! Brian Farda has moved from the classroom and has stepped into our Director of Facilities role. Additionally, we will be welcoming 15 new faculty and staff members. Please join me in congratulating both Marissa and Brian in their new roles, and welcoming our new staff into the Oakridge Family!
We look forward to seeing you all at our Back-To-School Bash on August 17!
Warmly,
Matt Burgy
Head of School
