What is "E-Newsletter"? Every Friday, the Oakridge Leadership Team sends a weekly newsletter. This newsletter opens with an update from Matt Burgy, Head of School. Each division head update follows his message. You may read the whole thing or parts, but we highly encourage you to read your child's division. Important information concerning the week(s) ahead for your child is included, and we want you to be informed and prepared.
SENIOR PERMISSIONS: As a senior privilege in Upper School, students in the class of 2024 may arrive at school after the first block (by 10 AM) of the day if they have a study hall that period or may depart early after the third block of the day if they have a study hall the last block of the day. This privilege requires parent permission; click here to complete the parent permission form. Students must sign in when arriving and sign out before departing each day. Any student leaving without permission will receive an unexcused absence for the period.
CHECKOUT PROCEDURES: Anytime a student needs to leave campus early, a parent MUST email to let the US office know. Once the office knows, the teachers are notified, and then the student can dismiss from the class without disrupting the teacher and be on time for their checkout. It is best practice to give 24 hours notice. Giving less than an hour's notice may result in classroom disruption and delayed dismissal.
CAMPUS POLICY: Parents, please support us with our updated security policies. All students and families must have a car tag on their rearview mirror; deliveries from outside vendors are prohibited. Parents may deliver to the Admissions office and text their child to pick up delivery from the main office as soon as possible. Parents may check into the main office and proceed to any campus appointments. We are a closed campus. This means students may not leave for study hall and return, nor may they leave for lunch and return. If they leave campus, it must be with prior parental notification. Appointments should be accompanied by a note to return to school, as this ensures the absence is excused.
ANNUAL FLU CLINIC: The flu clinic is scheduled for September 21 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the FAPH Foyer.
HOCO MUM AND GARTER: IYKYK! Homecoming week is October 2-6. Game day is Friday, October 6. The homecoming dance is Saturday, October 7, in the MAC on campus from 7:00–10:00 p.m. Mumstar is one local vendor for mum and garter needs. Any non-Oakridge student needs to have a guest form to attend.
CHECKPOINT 1.1 will be on September 15. Parents and students can access current grades on the designated dates throughout the school year (approximately every three weeks) via their portal, MyBackpack. These are called checkpoints and give a glimpse of progress in each course. Once these checkpoints are posted, they stay accessible for a week and are removed to prepare for the next checkpoint. Teachers will leave notes on student progress, which can be viewed by clicking the magnifying glass icon. Parents and students can also view attendance (tardies and absences) in the portal.
