AP EXAMS: AP Exams begin on Monday, May 6. Morning exams will begin at 7:45 AM and afternoon exams will begin at Noon. Room locations will be posted on the door of the Upper School Office and the College Advising Office. Testers will have short breaks so they should bring snacks. Of course, they will need the usual #2 pencils, pens, and a fully charged calculator. If you have not paid the exam fee ($100 per exam), please send a check or cash to College Advising Office or you can pay online here. On the day of an AP exam a student is allowed to not attend classes. Students should touch base with their teachers if they will miss a class. The dress for AP exams is non-uniform dress. Students need to refer to the US Handbook for proper attire criteria.
SENIOR EVENTS AND TIMELINE TO GRADUATION It is difficult to believe that we are wrapping up the year and approaching graduation. There are many events between now and then. The Senior Timeline is a great guide to all of the events.
GRADUATION PROGRAM AND SCRIPT: College Advising coordinates the graduation program and the student bios that are read at graduation. We need your help gathering this information. Please complete the Graduation Form. We will also need copies of all admit and scholarship letters. You are welcome to forward the copies via email to Coach DaSilva or upload them into the graduation form. Students can also check their Scoir My Drive folder to confirm if we have the letters.
SENIOR PARENTS RECEPTION: On behalf of The Oakridge Upper School, we invite you to join us on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. at the Arlington Lake House for the Class of 2024 Parents' Reception. Click the link to RSVP. We are excited to celebrate you!
SENIOR DINNER: Now is the time to begin making reservations for our Senior Dinner event scheduled for May 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the Oakridge Student Activities Center.
To reserve your spot and make your dinner selection, click the link RSVP. This year's menu includes a chicken, pork, and vegetarian option. Please communicate with Mr. Renshaw if you have special dietary requests other than the three menu options. Please make your reservations no later than May 5.
Dinner for the graduating senior is free, but each additional reservation has a cost of $30. After making your reservation, each graduate should see Mr. Renshaw to make a seating choice (if you have seating preferences, please send a note about that along with your graduate when s/he visits Mr. Renshaw).
GOLF RESULTS: This week the Oakridge Girls Golf team competed in the SPC Championship at The Golf Club of Houston. The course played over 5800 yards and the conditions were challenging. Despite the difficult course and trying conditions, the team finished third place. Annaliese Joiner earned second place and Emma Foster earned fourth place in the individual SPC competition. The hard work the girls put in all season certainly showed as they fought for a championship to the last few holes of the tournament. Great job, ladies!
TENNIS RESULTS: The upper school tennis team took on Trinity Valley this past Friday afternoon.
Austin Jones won his #2 singles match, after splitting sets. He fought his way to victory in the 3rd set.
Eva Kovachev dispatched her #1 singles opponent in straight sets.
The rest of the squad played some great tennis against a very tough TVS team. Our last match before the SPC tournament is against Greenhill on April 29.
STUDENT COUNCIL ICE CREAM SOCIAL: The Upper School Student Council had a special treat during advisory this week! Ice cream and cookies were the talk of the quad. We also hosted a few special guests for the event. Our Kindergarten and first grade students joined their junior and senior buddies for this welcome treat!
CHECKOUT PROCEDURES: Anytime a student needs to leave campus early a parent must email Ms. Blake to let the US office know. Once the office knows, the teachers are notified and then the student can dismiss from the class without disrupting the teacher and be on time for their checkout. It is best practice to give 24 hours notice. Giving less than an hour notice may result in classroom disruption and delayed dismissal.
CAMPUS POLICY: Parents please support us in our updated security policies. All students and families must have a car tag on their rearview mirror, deliveries from outside vendors are not allowed, parents may deliver to the Admissions office and text their child to pick up delivery from the main office as soon as possible. Parents may check into the main office and then proceed to any appointments scheduled on campus. We are a closed campus. This means students may not leave for study hall and return nor may they leave for lunch and return. If they leave campus it must be with prior parental notification. Appointments should be accompanied by a note to return to school as this ensures the absence is excused.
Please note the dates for the US April Calendar.
