Dear Oakridge Family,
It has been a wonderful week of celebration at The Oakridge School! From 100 days to Valentine's Day to the opening of "Curtains!" to our parent-teacher conferences being held today, our school has had a week of intense fun. As I saw parents drive onto campus this morning for conferences, I was reminded of the importance of partnership and its indispensable role in developing our children. This partnership extends well beyond our conversations today and involvement in our many school activities. It embodies a deep commitment to working together to fulfill our mission: inspiring our children to seek their full potential in academics, the arts, and athletics in a challenging and nurturing environment.
We know that this is not an easy task, and it requires that we come together as mutual advocates for your child(ren) and all of the other students at the school. We see a version of your child at school that is in an awesome state of becoming; becoming a talented musician, a scientist, a writer, a public speaker, a leader, an athlete, or any number of things they desire to become. The importance of understanding "becoming" something is that they are in a state of learning and that learning happens at different points and in various ways. It is an uneven process, even though we, as adults, expect it to be linear in nature. In reality, it is a process with peaks and valleys, times of plateau, and times where development will seem exponential. But what is constant in your child's change is that it will be at times when we least expect it that the "Aha!" moment will occur. To see the metamorphosis of a child in the state of becoming is magical, and they understand that school and parents alike need to be aligned in supporting their state of becoming.
I hope you all have a wonderful 3-day weekend! I hope to see you all at the Super Supper and Auction next Saturday!
Warmly,
Matt Burgy
