February 3, 2023

Dear Oakridge Family,

I hope you all stayed safe and warm during the past week’s ice event. Be on the lookout for our rescheduled events from this week! As a reminder, enrollment agreements for the 2023-2024 School Year are due today- Friday, February 3, 2023. Please see below for re-enrollment instructions at the bottom of this message.

In a week in which we have had ample time to reflect, we have been thinking about all the wonderful things we’ve done together this year. In the past 15 years, Oakridge has been honored to have had over 140 students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This year, we announced four additional students recognized as Commended Scholars. Additionally, Eshan Singhal has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. Eight more of our students earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Program.

Our middle and upper school music programs continue to bring tremendous recognition to our school. Oakridge is a core member of the Texas Private Schools Music Educators Association, which provides numerous opportunities for our scholar artists to showcase their talents through auditioned honor groups. This year 28 students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades were selected for TPSMEA Elementary and Middle School Honor Choirs. At the same time, 29 upper school singers were chosen for the TPSMEA Region 2 Honor Choir. Eight of these upper school students advanced through a second round of auditions to TPSMEA All-State Choir, including 4-year All-Stater Lauren Scott. Additionally, our students can compete against public school musicians through TMEA. Three middle school orchestra students were selected as part of the Region Honor Orchestra through TMEA, along with one upper school student. Five Oakridge singers were selected for TMEA Region Choir, with Landon Hodges and Kristina Miller advancing through three rounds of live auditions to be selected for the TMEA Small School All-State Choir. They will travel to San Antonio this coming week to sing with the 120 singers chosen statewide for this incredible honor. In total (choir, band, and orchestra), more than 70,000 students will have auditioned statewide for just 1500 spots in various All-State ensembles.

Athletically, we have had a highly successful run this year. Our Varsity Volleyball team made it to the Conference Championship for the second straight season. Alumnus Rytis Petraitis was named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week multiple times for the Air Force Academy men’s basketball team. Our middle school football team went undefeated. And finally, we enter the Winter SPC Championships with a State-ranked Varsity Boys Basketball program and a top-ranked swimmer in Bryce Key.

We have much to be thankful for, but some of our most significant accomplishments have been in serving others. For example, we continued our Annual tradition of the Turkey Toss at Mission Arlington, with 90 volunteers from our Oakridge Community working together to move 5,000 turkeys to feed families on Thanksgiving Day.

These are just a sample of the amazing things that happened on campus in our first few months. There were so many wonderful accomplishments by our students, parents, faculty, and friends that I could go on and on! Regardless, many great things are going on at Oakridge, and I’m excited about what the stretch run of the school year will hold.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Warmly,

Matt Burgy
Head of School
