Greetings, Middle School Families,

The most wonderful time of the year! As 2023 is quickly coming to an end, there is no better time than the present to recount a few of my favorite middle school memories. The school year started with our “Back-to-School” bash in August. To witness the excitement, nervousness, and energy that filled the quad and gymnasium was magical and electrifying, all at the same time. Although we had no idea of what to expect of these uncharted waters for the upcoming school year, our anticipation of great things echoed in our hearts, minds, and spirits.

During the month of September we were getting into the swing of things. Routines, procedures, and expectations were tested and tried, but we eventually learned how to rock and roll, and mesh together as a Middle School family. October was filled with field and class trips to the CR Smith Museum at the American Airlines Center, The Bass Performance Hall, Camp Grady Spruce at Possum Kingdom Lake, and The Trinity Adventure Park. Watching students engage with their friends and listening to uncontrollable laughter and chatter helped us all to settle in on this amazing journey.

November was an opportunity for us to give thanks for family, friends, and teachers, and to cherish moments with our grandparents and grandfriends. We learned the value of serving and how to be thankful for the small things. Finally, December dashed in like a flash. We could hardly believe that in the twinkle of an eye, we would be crossing the finish line of the first semester of 2023. And although everyday wasn't sunshine and rainbows this new rendition of a timeless song often rings loud and clear, “when the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite middle school memories and it makes my heart so glad.”

Whether you are staying home or traveling over the holidays, our hope is that you will cherish the moments with family and friends. We are grateful to have you as a part of the Oakridge Middle School family and appreciate your continued support.

Happy Holidays!

Tamika R. Dees
