Tamika Dees, Head of Middle School

October 12, 2023

Greetings, Middle School Families,

This week, Middle School has been all about the Arts. According to several studies, a substantial increase in arts education and experience tremendously affects academic, social, and emotional outcomes for all students. The arts generally encourage self-expression, creativity, and can build confidence and self-identity. Here at Oakridge, students can explore and experience fine arts from preschool through 12th grade.

On Monday, October 9, our Middle School choir students sang in their first school performance of the year. Our 6th grade students performed a song titled “Tamu T” and 7th/8th grade students performed a beautiful rendition titled “Shoshone Love Song.” The students did a fantastic job and sang with such poise and confidence. We are eagerly anticipating the Winter Concert on December 6.

Our 5th grade students had an opportunity to attend Ellis Island, a performance at the Bass Performance Hall, and participate in an on-campus showcase for drama and orchestra. The students had so many wonderful things to say about the performance and were excited to display their talents in front of their peers and families.

Finally, the Middle School orchestra performed on October 11. The students were decked out in black and white attire and played with style and grace. We are looking forward to seeing our students as they continue to grow and develop in their musical creativity and expression.

The 2024 Oakridge STEM Showcase will be held on Friday, January 26. Please see the attached link for more information.

Again, thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement as we strive to help our middle school scholars become the best versions of themselves.

With profound gratitude,

Tamika Dees
