Tamika Dees, Head of Middle School

September 29, 2023

Greetings, Middle School Families,

Homecoming at The Oakridge School is an event you don't want to miss! Homecoming is an amazing time celebrated by alums and enjoyed by the entire school community. For over 20 years, traditions such as Spirit Week, dress-up-themed days, and cool Homecoming t-shirts are a small part of this phenomenal event. On Homecoming day, local and school leaders, student teams and organizations, and members of our extended school family line up to travel down the spinal road for the parade. The number of parade entries has increased over the years, but it is the entries themselves that give the homecoming parade that "hometown" feel. From the Oakridge Drumline to classic cars, flatbed trailer floats, and horse-pulled buggies, stroll our streets as onlookers cheer with excitement. On the night of Homecoming, the sky is filled with the most spectacular fireworks show in Arlington. So come out and join us for HoCo 2023, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name." We are also excited about our second round of Student Council elections for Advisory Representatives and Team Captains. The Representatives' responsibility is to present suggestions and ideas from their advisory classes and serve as positive role models. The role of the Team Captains is to contribute to designing grade-level activities and competitions and take the lead in building team pride and spirit. Congratulations to all of our scholars who have been elected to these positions. Our Last Friday team building activity will be filled with opportunities for students to collaborate, create team flags, and compete in a kickball tournament. Let the games begin!

Parents can access mid-point grades throughout the school year (approximately every three weeks) via MyBackpack. These checkpoints give a glimpse of your child's progress in each course. Teachers may also leave notes and updates, which can be viewed by clicking the magnifying glass icon.

Warm Regards,
Tamika Dees
