Let’s SOAR!
We are definitely off to a great start in Middle School. This week our scholars were introduced to the SOAR study skills program, which consists of specific core strategies divided into four components: Set goals, Organize, Ask questions, and Record your progress. These soft skills are valuable for preparing our students for post-secondary education, the workforce, and most importantly, life.
Our 5th and 6th grade students learned how to use a planner and establish their priorities efficiently. Seventh graders completed a multiple intelligence survey, and College Advising worked with our 8th graders to set up College Board accounts in preparation for the PSAT 8/9 on October 11.
In addition, Mrs. Roe’s math class students are completing an “Exploration in Careers” project. The students have been tasked with researching courses needed to help them prepare for a specific career, entry-level salary, the job market, and annual personal expenses.
The Intermediate and Advanced Writing and Public Speaking classes are designing name posters that display their unique characteristics and creativity. Physical Science students are practicing lab skills and taking accurate measurements using the SI (metric) system. We would love for you to partner with us by asking your child about their planner, PSAT 8/9 goal(s), and primary mode of intelligence (bodily-kinesthetic, musical/rhythmic, linguistic, logical/mathematical, spatial, and interpersonal). Our middle schoolers have done a phenomenal job taking risks and are proving they are up for a challenge.
With profound gratitude,
Tamika Dees
