Tamika Dees, Head of Middle School

May 24, 2024

Greetings, Middle School Families,

As we come to a close for the 2023-2024 school year, we are so grateful for all of the wonderful memories that were made this past year in Middle School. It’s really hard to believe that just several months ago we were celebrating with our Back-to-School Bash and welcoming our newest owls. Oh, the energy and excitement that filled the atmosphere as we embarked on a new journey together was contagious.

As the year progressed, we enjoyed cheering on our sports teams, participating in choir/orchestra concerts, and performing in plays. During the fall semester, our Lower House students had an amazing time participating in team-building activities and the great outdoors on their class trips. We eagerly anticipated our STUCO Last Friday events which included a kickball and Nuk’Em tournament, as well as Minute to Win It challenges. Although the competition was fierce, they learned the benefits of working as a team.

During the spring semester, our students participated in the first annual Oakridge Oratorical Showcase. They blew us all away with their creativity and ability to engage the audience. We also had a number of students who represented the Oakridge Middle School in the state PSIA competition in San Marcos, and several students were awarded as Baylor Tip scholars. Our Upper House students danced the night away at our winter and spring dances, made marvelous memories on their class trips to Austin and Arkansas, and had a blast at the end-of-year celebrations.

Finally, our students had an opportunity to showcase their skills in the Middle School talent show, which was such a great way to end the school year.

It has truly been an awesome and rewarding experience to serve as Head of Middle School. This year I’ve witnessed students grow and develop by leaps and bounds. They are becoming confident, well-rounded leaders, who are not afraid to try things outside the box. They are bold and courageous when they speak, and are genuinely happy when their peers are recognized for achieving their goals. They don’t quit when things get hard and are not afraid to do hard things. Whether on the field, the stage, or in the classroom, they always bring their A-game! So today I want to say “thank you” for your support and encouragement as we continue to navigate this amazing journey in the “middle.”

Happy Summer!
