Greetings, Middle School Families, 

We are truly exploring the great outdoors in Middle School again this week. Our sixth graders had the opportunity to travel to Camp Grady Spruce at Possum Kingdom Lake and we had an amazing time.

The students and teachers were up early Wednesday morning and ready to depart at 6:00 a.m. for the 2.5 hour drive to the campsite. The excitement, laughter, and choral singing was the highlight of the morning bus ride to the beautiful destination. 

Once they arrived the students were divided into groups and attended camp orientation, and without reservation they were all up for the challenging activities planned throughout the day. The activities included team building, a boat trip, horseback riding,  and a lesson on survival skills. The students left Camp Grady Spruce with cherished memories for a lifetime.

SMU Collaboration Study

Our 8th grade students in Honors Physical Science have the esteemed privilege to participate in a STEM study in collaboration with Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Students have the opportunity to utilize a web-based simulation designed to help them learn about simple harmonic motion and oscillations. This research study aims to enhance students' understanding of this complex science concept through an interactive physics simulation.

Participants will manipulate and experiment with several physical and mathematical models of a simple pendulum connected dynamically in real time. The main research objective of this study is to understand how middle and high school students engage with an online science tool and how this engagement facilitates their learning of complex science concepts. We are so excited to be a part of this dynamic opportunity!
