Tamika Dees, Head of Middle School

September 27, 2024

Greetings, Middle School Families,

I am so excited to announce that we’ve completed our Middle School Student Council elections. All the candidates did a fantastic job campaigning and spoke confidently and poised during their speeches. These young scholars truly demonstrated the epitome of leadership.

Students had the opportunity to run for several positions, including president, advisory representative, and committee chair. The president's responsibility is to present approved proposals to school administration, represent their grade level in any formal capacity, and serve on a minimum of two committees. Advisory representatives present suggestions and ideas from their advisory classes and serve as positive role models. Finally, the role of the committee chair is to contribute to designing grade-level activities and events, as well as taking the lead in building team pride and spirit. Congratulations to all of our scholars who desire to serve the Oakridge Middle School in a leadership capacity.

After several close races and run-off elections, please review the attached link for the 2024-2025 Oakridge Middle School Student Council election results.

We are also celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. During this time,, we recognize and celebrate the culture and contributions of American citizens of Hispanic descent. In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson established Hispanic Heritage Week, and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded this celebration into Hispanic Heritage Month. Find out more information about upcoming events at Hispanic Heritage Month.gov.

We invite you to our Parent Conferences on Friday, October 25. Each year, Oakridge sets aside one day in the fall (October 25) and one in the winter (February 28) to hold parent conferences. However, parents can request a conference anytime throughout the year by emailing the teacher directly or calling the Middle School Office. Schedule a conference using this link. There will be no classes for students on the 25th.
