Tamika Dees, Head of Middle School

September 6, 2024

Greetings, Middle School Families,

The month of September is filled with opportunities for our Middle School scholars to learn how to study, implement test-taking strategies, try new things, and utilize different learning modalities. During this adolescent period, we understand that the brain is resilient, which makes this an ideal time for establishing a solid learning path for the remainder of their academic career.

One of our goals in Middle School is to implement instructional strategies that promote abstract thinking, reasoning skills, and creativity. We have enjoyed watching our Owls work in collaborative groups, utilize different resources to solve complex problems and take ownership of their learning.

However, not only are we creating a challenging academic environment for our students, but also a safe space for them to develop emotionally. During Owl Council, we encourage students to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and hold themselves accountable for their actions. We encourage them to engage in healthy peer conflict resolutions and mediation strategies.

Throughout the school year students will have the opportunity to participate in a number of extracurricular activities. These may include Student Council, Private School Interscholastic Association Academic Competition (PSIA), Spelling Bee, the Oratorical Showcase, and community service. Please stay tuned for more information on how your child can participate in these exciting events.
