Greetings, Middle School Parents,
On Thursday, January 16, nineteen of our Middle School scholars participated in the Scripps School Spelling Bee, showcasing their spelling skills after winning their classroom bees in December.
Our participants included: Alex Wong, Ella McHugh, Jordyn Williams, Felice Hwang and Levi Stewart (5th Grade); Lexi Lewis, Julia Maddalena, Olivia Mirzaei, Andrew Van Buren, and Mantaaj Sandhu (6th Grade); Advik Arvind, Léa Martel, Atharv Saxena, and Lucas Wong (7th Grade); Quinn Martinez, Shiloh Roberts, Samuel Rogers, and Genna Fain (8th Grade).
Congratulations to our champion, Andrew Van Buren who will advance to the Scripps Area Bee in February! Also, a big shoutout to Atharv Saxena, our runner-up!
Oakridge Middle School is continuing our partnership with Baylor University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP) this year! Baylor TIP offers a number of exciting opportunities for students, including Super Saturday virtual events, which are open to all students.
Upcoming Super Saturday virtual events (February 22 and March 29) include problem-solving activities and coding challenges, available for grades 1-12. More information is available on the Super Saturday webpage.
Additionally, we are partnering with Baylor TIP to conduct the 7th Grade Talent Search on our campus. Students who are highly qualified are selected to take the TIP Indicator of Academic Readiness (IAR) in February, and may be invited to participate in special events on the Baylor Campus, including an Award Ceremony and college-level summer academic programs. Information and an FAQ can be found at the 7th Grade Talent Search website. Please check out these amazing opportunities!
With profound gratitude,
Tamika R. Dees
