Dear Middle School,

"Rest and be thankful!" - William Wadsworth

These are simple words, but appropriate for anyone or organization that has put in the hard work to pursue excellence in striving to reach their destination. With the end of the first marking period in the books, Wadsworth's written words seem timely. Yes, there is still much work this school year, but Fall Break comes at an opportune time and reminds faculty and students to rest, recharge, and reflect on what has worked and what still needs attention. It's at this intersection that growth can happen.

Each week, I try to include questions that have been asked or that I think may be helpful to you in our weekly communication. In addition, if you have a question that you feel might be helpful for other parents in the Middle School that you would like considered for our weekly communication, please email your questions to me at brobinson@theoakridgeschool.

1. Spirit Week is next week. What are the themes for each day?

  • Spirit week is always a lot of fun. The more that participate in the spirit, the better. Students should follow non-uniform dress code guidelines. Students are permitted to wear athletic shorts all week as part of the theme. This year's themes are:
    • Tuesday (10/11)- It's a Bug's Life
      • Dress as your favorite bug!
    • Wednesday (10/12)- Glamping
      • Glamorous or Grunge?
    • Thursday (10/13)- Hiking
      • Wear your hiking attire.
    • Friday (10/14)
      • Wear your Homecoming t-shirt or any spirit wear!

2. On Wednesday, October 12, the 8th grade is taking the PSAT 8/9. What is the schedule for the rest of the Middle School? Is it an A or B day?

  • The 8th grade will take the PSAT 8/9 in the Upper School from 8:20 am-11:35 am. Students in grades 5, 6, and 7 will see all of their A and B day classes in shortened 40-45 minute segments. When the 8th-grade students finish their test, they will have advisory, lunch, B7, A4, and end their day with athletics.

3. When and how do I view the report card with the first marking period ending?

  • Report card grades will be finalized and published on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 12. Students and parents can view the report card in My BackPack under Marking Period Grades and Comments. Grades will be posted under the column RPT1. The new marking period begins on Tuesday, October 11, and ends on December 16.

4. The Oakridge Parent's Club Fall Middle School Dessert Party is on October 27. Can I help or donate any food items for the party?

As always, please email me if you have additional questions.

Kind regards,

Britt
