Britt Robinson, Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning, Head of Middle School

April 6, 2023

In last week’s Leadership Message, Mr. Burgy shared information about the school’s security plan, including immediate enhancements and future improvements. I am grateful for the shared commitment and reassured by the coming together on this important topic between the school, students, parents, and community. With plans either in place or in process, my mind goes to a very important question for parents- How do I talk to my child about this? Cortney Edwards, our school counselor, has provided a couple of resources written for parents that you may find helpful in navigating conversations with your child about recent events. While the approach may and probably will differ from family to family, I find these resources helpful to frame conversations with children of different ages. If you have any questions about navigating this topic with your child, please reach out to Cortney at cedwards@theoakridgeschool.org

Each week, I include questions that have been asked, or that may be helpful to you in our weekly communication. In addition, if you have a question that you feel might be helpful for other parents in the Middle School that you would like considered for our weekly communication, please email your questions to me at brobinson@theoakridgeschool.org

1. I am aware that I need a name badge and a car placard. If I misplaced either one, where can I get a new one?

It is important to remember that all visitors during the school day are required to wear a lanyard with a name badge and place a car placard in a visible space when on campus. This will be particularly helpful and necessary for entering campus directly after morning drop-off and directly before pick-up, where road access to both the main campus and the ECC will be closed. All cars entering campus will need to check-in at the guard shack at the front of campus between 9 AM - 2 PM. Lanyards and name badges can be picked up at the front desk in the Information Station. Please contact Mrs. Wetzel (bwetzel@theoakridgeschool.org) if you need an additional car placard.

2. Are there any upcoming non-uniform dress days?

Yes. We look forward to recognizing our newest National Junior Honor Society members next Wednesday, April 12. The inductees are asked to wear professional dress, as if they were going to an interview. To celebrate the induction, all students, regardless of being inducted or not, in the Middle School can wear professional dress on Wednesday. Students not being inducted may also choose to wear their regular school uniform.

As always, please email me if you have additional questions.

Kind regards,

Britt
