This past weekend, I was fortunate to see many of our Owls participate in the Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) academic competition. With about 20 Middle School students from Oakridge participating, it was exciting to see how well our students competed in poetry interpretation, impromptu speaking, science, spelling, math, and maps, graphs, and charts. With several of our students placing in the competition, including six students with first-place finishes, several students qualified to compete in the state meet held later in April at TCU. Our students represented our school beautifully. Go Owls!

Please help us congratulate these students who placed in the top three in their competition category:

Each week, I include questions that have been asked, or that may be helpful to you in our weekly communication. In addition, if you have a question that you feel might be helpful for other parents in the Middle School that you would like considered for our weekly communication, please email your questions to me at brobinson@theoakridgeschool.org

1. What is the Boosterthon school fundraiser?

Boosterthon launched this week. This is a fundraiser sponsored by Parent’s Club to help contribute impactful and student centered funding back to the school and the classrooms. To register, please visit mybooster.com. On April 6, 5th and 6th grade will participate in the Fun Run during PE and 7th and 8th graders will participate in the Color Run during Athletics. For the day of the run, students may wear their Boosterthon Shirt and athletic shorts.

2. Are there any upcoming OPC dessert parties?

Yes, on April 6 OPC will host a Spring Middle School dessert party. If you would like to help, please visit the Sign Up Genius link.

3. Does the Middle School participate in the National Junior Honor Society?

Yes. Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a high honor that can be awarded to a Middle School student in grades 7 and 8 at The Oakridge School.

Scholarship, service, character, leadership, and citizenship are the basis of selection as demonstrated by activities, conduct grades, and discipline records. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average, but an unrounded A- cumulative average, in 7th/8th grade academic and fine arts classes, is required for a student to be eligible for induction.

For students not inducted in 7th grade, potential eligibility will be revisited after a full semester of 8th grade.

Invitations for induction to eligible 7th and 8th grade students will be sent out in the coming weeks.

As always, please email me if you have additional questions.

Kind regards,

Britt
