Dear Middle School Parents,

None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with love, and together we can do something wonderful– Mother Teresa

We are excited as we begin preparation for our community for the 2023-2024 school year. As they meet with Mr. Andersen and Mrs. Metoyer to discuss schedules, our current 8th grade students are beginning their transition to the Upper School. Likewise, in the coming weeks, re-enrolled students in 5th through 7th grade will begin to make their selection for next year’s schedule by selecting their Fine Arts choices. Finally, teachers are submitting their recommendations for next year’s Math and 8th grade English and Science classes. If you are not re-enrolled, please visit My Backpack as soon as possible to submit your paperwork so your child can be included in the scheduling process. This is an exciting time to be an Owl!

Each week, I include questions that have been asked, or that may be helpful to you in our weekly communication. In addition, if you have a question that you feel might be helpful for other parents in the Middle School that you would like considered for our weekly communication, please email your questions to me at brobinson@theoakridgeschool.org

1. I struggle with some of my child’s technology tools, including Google Classroom. Is there a training session for parents?

Absolutely. On February 21, we will offer two sessions for Middle School parents (3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. OR 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.). To assist us with our planning, please complete this brief interest survey.

2. What drinks are allowed in the classroom?

The only drinks allowed in the classroom (except with permission) are clear liquids, such as water.

3. Is the Library hosting any special guests in the near future?

Best-selling author Stuart Gibbs is coming to Oakridge on Friday, March 3, and will present to students in grades 3-7. Mr. Gibbs is the author of the Spy School, Space Case, FunJungle, Charlie Thorne, and Once Upon a Tim books. Mr. Gibbs will autograph any purchased books if they are taken to the library by March 1 and include the student's full name and teacher's name. https://stuartgibbs.com/. Mr. Gibbs' books are available on Amazon and at all major bookstores.

4. What should I do if my child is sick?

Nurse Kim's Corner

5.  Can my child bring a cell phone to school?

A student may bring a cell phone to school, but it must not be seen or heard  during the school day, unless permission is given by a teacher.

As always, please email me if you have additional questions.

Kind regards,

Britt
