Dear Lower School Parents,

We had perfect weather for the Fort Worth Zoo on Tuesday with second grade. That is really fortunate considering all of the crazy weather we have had lately.

This year has gone so fast, at least for those of us who are not children. I feel like time moves slower for kids. They methodically anticipate and count down the days for birthdays and holidays to arrive. They enjoy little pleasures in every day, things like ice cream, a tiny wildflower, a small prize from the teacher’s treasure box, a new pencil, or a compliment from a friend. Children have so many qualities that we can learn from and emulate. Enjoying each day is one that inspires me.

Next week we have five half days. School dismisses at 11:30 each day. The afternoons are reserved for parent conferences. The last day of school is our annual Clap Up to celebrate our fourth graders as they leave Lower School and head upstairs for Middle School. We line the halls and clap for them before they head off campus for their big party. First through third graders will have their End of the Year Party from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. All parents are invited to join us!

Finally, a note from our school counselor, Jennifer Novoselsky… “Being a parent is hard work, but little changes in routines can make a huge difference on the entire family system. I love Dr. Nelson's resources on Positive Discipline. Her books and website have ideas for home and classroom management. One of the best things we implemented during COVID at my home was the idea of Family Meetings. Read this article about how to structure this and utilize this format to avoid struggle and arguments.”
