Sarah Schecter, Head of Lower School

February 9, 2024

Dear Lower School Parents,

Fourth grade had a great time at Log Cabin Village in Fort Worth on Tuesday. It was fun to visit a place that hasn’t changed much since the 1800’s. The children really enjoyed visiting a one room schoolhouse, watching a blacksmith work, making candles, and doing pioneer chores. They learned so much about how life was in Texas for the pioneers.

February 12, marks the beginning of the 2024 Living History Program. Mike and Belinda Adams will be with us, ready to share their hands-on museum with Lower School students. They bring a large collection of artifacts that the students have the opportunity to handle and use as they learn. On Monday, we will have Tipi Day as Mr. and Mrs. Adams set up an authentic tipi made out of eight buffalo hides. Each class will have an opportunity to visit the tipi and learn about life on the plains. Anytime during the three weeks, we welcome you to come and see all the learning and fun.

Friday, February 16, is Parent Conference Day. Students do not attend class on this day. If you have not signed up for an appointment, there is still time.

Thank you for taking time to enroll for next school year. We are thankful you have chosen The Oakridge School for your family. It is an honor to work with your children each day.

Tuesday the Arlington PD will be in our library at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation that will focus on human trafficking and online safety/child exploitation. This information is important and needed, as we help our children navigate all they are exposed to on their devices.

All are invited to our Valentine’s Day parties, beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14. Party sign up lists and class lists were sent earlier. If you have a question, contact your child’s teacher on SeeSaw.

It’s not too late to purchase tickets to the Super Supper. It is always a fun time. I bought my tickets on Monday, and I look forward to seeing many of you there!
