Dear Parents,

This week, Kindergarten had their first visit from their Junior Buddies. The Kindergarten and Junior Buddies partnership is one of my favorite annual signature programs. Each Kindergarten student is paired with an Oakridge Junior, and throughout the school year, the juniors can be found reading to their Kindergarten buddies, playing on the playground, or taking part in a seasonal craft. The buddy program is a great way for the juniors to practice and model patience, compassion, friendship and positivity. It truly brings a huge smile to all of our faces as we watch the students come together.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped make Trike-A-Thon a huge success. Throughout the week, students learned about trike safety, including the importance of wearing a helmet and not riding in the street. We culminated our week-long bike safety unit with a Trike-A-Thon led by an Arlington Police Officer. We feel proud that we also raised money for kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while practicing our motor skills. We also put our thought of the week, “We support each other,” to work. We cheered on our friends and supported each other’s efforts throughout the week.

Next week, we will embark upon another Oakridge tradition - Spirit Week and the Homecoming football game. It is fun to watch our Oakridge family come together in unity with the special dress days. On Friday, October 6, we invite families to join us for the annual Oakridge Homecoming parade that begins at 10:00 a.m. Kindergarten students will be walking in the parade while Preschool and Pre-K students will ride on a bus. The parade will begin near the Security guard shack and wind around the road up to the main campus. Wear your Oakridge green and blue, bring your cheering voice, and come watch as the Oakridge students and faculty shine with school spirit. On behalf of a group of ECC Oakridge families, you are invited to join the ECC Homecoming tent for the pre-game activities and the 7:00 p.m. football game while we cheer on the Owls. The tent will be located near the playground at the Oakridge Athletic Complex. It is a wonderful opportunity to watch your children play with their peers and meet other ECC families.
