Ashley Read '05, Head of Early Childhood
September 8, 2023
Dear Parents,
This week, students have been focusing on our thought of the week: “We share with each other.” We are generous, kind friends who share smiles, hugs, and toys. “But we don’t share our germs, Mrs. Read! We cover our mouths when we cough,” as one ECC friend reminded us. Sharing is a hard skill for young children to learn. Looking for suggestions on how to help your little one share? Try time-sharing. Decide on a fair amount of time for each child to have that toy. Have the children decide who will go first by picking a number 1 - 10, and whoever is the closest gets to start with the toy. Set the timer and switch when the timer goes off.
Tuesday, September 5, we hosted our first “ECC 1st Tuesdays - Coffee, Snacks, and ECC Calendar Chat.” What a great turnout we had! We chatted about the upcoming ECC September and October events and began making plans for the ECC Homecoming Tent. If you are interested in being part of the Homecoming Tent creation, please connect with your child’s grade-level Facebook group.
Whether you are new to the Oakridge Community or a returning family, it can be difficult at times to learn all of the avenues of communication. Below, you will find suggestions on ways to stay connected and up to date on all things ECC:
- Friday Leadership Emails from the Head of School and 4 Divisions
- Remind App
- Seesaw App
- Whiteboard outside of the ECC
- Oakridge App
- Oakridge Facebook Groups created and led by Oakridge parents:
- Preschool: Oakridge Class of 2038
- Pre-K: Oakridge Class of 2037
- Kindergarten: Oakridge Class of 2036
St. Jude Trike-A-Thon: September 29
We are excited to be hosting our annual St. Jude Trike-A-Thon again this year. St. Jude Trike-A-Thon is a fun and educational way for young cyclists to learn trike safety while making a difference for St. Jude kids. During the week of September 25, students will spend time during morning announcements learning about trike safety. During the morning of September 29, students will culminate their trike safety unit by putting the skills they learned to the test. Each child will be asked to bring a riding toy (tricycle, scooter, bicycle, etc.) and a helmet to school on September 29. Each class will spend time riding around the parking lot. Parents, you can help your child prepare for this day by practicing riding their riding toy at home over the next month. Additionally, we invite you to join us for this fun event! Please let us know if your child does not own a riding toy, as we have extras. See the flyer below for more details and riding times.
Sincerely,
Ashley Read, Oakridge Class of 2005
