Ashley Read '05, Head of Early Childhood

April 5, 2024

Dear Parents,

This week, we put our thought of the week, “we cheer each other on,” into authentic practice. The students hopped onto the bus and traveled to the Oakridge Athletic Complex (OAC) where they ran their hearts out during our annual “Boosterthon Fun Run.” You could hear parents and students cheering for our ECC friends as they worked hard to compete. Thank you to our selfless volunteers who made this day possible and so special for our students.

Kindergarten families, please ensure that you read the Walk to the Future email that was sent out last week. Remember to R.S.V.P. to Mrs. McGee before April 17. Include your name, child’s name and a headcount for lunch.

What to expect on Solar Eclipse Day, April 8, at the ECC:

It is exciting that The Oakridge School will be in a prime location to witness this historical event - a total eclipse of the sun! According to NASA, the solar eclipse will begin its partial eclipse phase at around 12:20 p.m. in DFW. Totality is set to begin around 1:40 p.m. CDT and last until  about 1:44 p.m. before completely ending around 3:00 p.m. Other than during the brief totality, looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection is unsafe. Special-purpose solar filter glasses, or “eclipse glasses,” provide eye protection. Due to the ages of our Early Childhood students, and out of extreme caution and protection to their eyesight, ECC students will remain inside between the hours of 12:20 p.m. and carpool. Students will watch a live stream of the eclipse in the “Big Room” and their classrooms. We will provide students with eclipse glasses to wear during afternoon carpool. Additionally, students will take part in solar eclipse lessons and activities in their classes. We are excited to be part of this historic event and know that it will be a lasting memory for our ECC students.

Sincerely,

Ashley Read
