“But that’s not fair!” How many times per week do we hear this as parents to young children? This week, students have been learning the challenging lesson of “we get what we need, but we don’t always get what we want.” Sometimes we want dessert all day, but we get vegetables. Other times we get clothes as birthday gifts, but we want toys. Different friends need different types of special help and sometimes that doesn’t always feel fair. The students have been discussing how grownups treat each child differently based on their needs, not their wants. When you don’t get what you want, think to yourself, “oh well. Maybe next time.”
Book options:
- Pookins Gets Her Way by Helen Lester
- Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and James Dean
- That’s Not Fair by Gina and Mercer Mayer
- Waiting is Not Easy! By Mo Willems
Holiday Treasures: This week, students enjoyed traveling to the Oakridge Parents’ Club (OPC) building for their shopping adventures. From stuffed animals to jewelry to fuzzy socks and everything in between, the students shopped until they dropped. Thank you to our amazing parents’ club volunteers. The event went off smoothly because of your hard work and time. We appreciate you!
Winter Class Parties, December 19, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 Dismissal: The children are very much looking forward to our annual Winter Class Parties. We are so grateful for you all and your support to ensure these parties go off without a hitch. Be sure to check the sign-up genius link that was shared with you to see how you can volunteer your time or items for the party. You can choose to help setup, supply a food or drink item, help with the craft and more. Your attendance is encouraged at the parties. If you are unable to locate the sign up genius link, please contact the ECC front office. Use this form to sign up for Owls’ Nest on Thursday, if needed.
Uniforms: Jackets and sweaters with no names are piling up in the front office. Please be sure that you are writing your child’s name on all outerwear to ensure we return the lost item to the rightful owner.
Festive Dress Days NEXT WEEK: During the week of December 16 - 19, all ECC students are invited to join in on the Festive Dress Day. Daily themes can be found on the flyer below. NO SCHOOL on Friday, December 20.
