Dear Parents,
This week, students learned about being a good citizen and how to take care of their community. Citizens make sure their community stays clean and safe. We clean up trash when we see it on the ground, we push in chairs when they are left out and we turn the lights off when we leave a room. We do all of this without being asked to do it.
Book options about being a good citizen:
Clifford’s Good Deed by Norman Bridwell
Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen
Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson
The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
Homecoming Week: Our Homecoming Week and parade is another way that we care for our community and we enjoyed celebrating throughout the week. The students, faculty, staff and many of you all came together to celebrate our school community. The parade was a fantastic display of Oakridge pride, with students, parents, and teachers dressing up in theme and cheering on their classmates. The Kindergarten students were adorable walking in the parade holding their handmade owls while the Preschool and Pre-K students rode the Oakridge bus with smiles grinning from ear to ear. The atmosphere was electric, and the energy was contagious as parents and loved ones cheered from the spinal road. The fireworks show at the Varsity Football game tonight will be the perfect way to end the night. The sky will light up with vibrant colors and it will be a truly magical moment. One of my favorite things about Homecoming is how it brings our community together. We take care of each other, and we support each other. We are proud of our school, and we are proud to be Oakridge Owls.
A glimpse at next week:
October 24 - Owlfest
Owlfest is a fall carnival for ECC and Lower School children run by volunteers from the Oakridge Parents’ Club and members of our NJHS. Students are invited to join us on the main campus in the Quad from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. This come-and-go event is a fun time for students to enjoy games, activities, and food trucks. Students are invited to come in costume.
October 25 - Parent-Teacher Conferences - NO SCHOOL
On Friday, October 25, we will be hosting our fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. Teachers will share your child's strengths, including academic achievements and social-emotional development. They will also discuss areas where your child is working to improve, such as specific academic skills and fine motor development. We value these days as it provides time for the partnership between school and home to grow. To sign up for a conference you will need to login to the parent portal and click on the yellow banner that reads “Parent Teacher Conference.” *Please note: There will be no school for students on the designated Parent-Teacher Conference Days.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Best regards,
