Dear Families,
This week, we continued discussing how “Our differences make us special.” All people look and act in different ways. Some people are tall; others are short. Some people have dark eyes; others have light. Every person is different. That means every person is special. Our differences make us special. Differences can make a person feel good or not so good. At Oakridge, we celebrate differences, so we use our words and our actions to help people feel good about how they are different.
Preview Day:
Our annual “Preview Day,” which was held on January 14 this year, was a special day at the ECC. Students can be nervous to enter a new grade level with a new teacher and new friends. This day was created to help alleviate some of those nerves, give the teachers a chance to get to know the students, and create excitement around moving up a grade level. The students were all smiles as they traveled room to room. The Kindergarteners were extra excited that they were able to travel by bus to “The Big School” where they met the 1st grade teachers, visited the cafeteria, and toured the hallways. Fun was had by all.
Book Fair, January 27 - February 1:
Each year, the Oakridge Parents’ Club in conjunction with Mrs. DeWinter, our Head Librarian, hosts the annual Book Fair in our beautiful Library. This event allows all our students and families to purchase books, which in turn, raises funds for our library. It’s a win-win! All the proceeds raised during the Book Fair go directly to The Oakridge School Library in the form of new books and funds to purchase things like new furniture and take-home kit supplies. Parents, we welcome you to volunteer at this special event. More information to come soon on how your children can purchase books. There are several ways you can pay for books at the Book Fair. Cash, credit cards, and checks made out to OPC are all acceptable. More details to come.
On January 27, each ECC student will visit the Book Fair with their class. Students will be allowed to purchase books during this time if they choose. Students can also shop during “Breakfast and Books” and Family Night. ECC students will shop with their classes during the below listed times on Monday, January 27:
- Buckalew: 8:40 - 9:00 a.m.
- Hatley: 9:00 - 9:20 a.m.

Uniform Update:
We appreciate your patience as we navigate the abrupt closing of Dennis Uniform. We are in the process of securing a partnership with a new company. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit our OPC Uniform Resale on February 14 from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m., or visit the Oakridge Spirit Store, Owl’s Landing, to purchase outerwear. Please contact Mrs. McGee for Owl’s Landing hours.
Best regards,
