Dear Families,

Research shows that a child's overall well-being and development improve when they use positive self-talk. Using encouraging and affirming language to oneself is an essential skill that leads to children building confidence, being resilient, and having self-esteem. Teaching your child to use positive self-talk can help them develop a healthy sense of self-worth and a positive attitude toward life.

This week, we have been practicing positive self-talk during our morning announcements with our thought of the week: "We challenge each other." We have been encouraging ourselves and one another to use positive self-talk, such as, "I can do it! You can do it! We can do it!" When things seem hard, and we want to give up, we need to push through and talk positively to ourselves. Consider using positive language when praising your child. Instead of saying, "You're so smart," try saying, "You worked really hard on that, and I am proud of you." This positive language reinforces the idea that effort and hard work are important rather than innate abilities.

The Boosterthon Fun Run is scheduled for April 5. What is Boosterthon?

It's time for the Oakridge Parents' Club annual fundraiser, Boosterthon! This is a week-long event that will encourage students to help raise funds for their school while learning multiple character traits through an assortment of exciting activities. Their main goal will be to ask their families and friends to make a donation to the school in the form of a pledge. On April 5, the ECC students will participate in a FUN RUN at the Oakridge Athletic Complex where they will "earn" those pledges with some good old-fashioned physical exertion. We will be sharing more information in the coming weeks! For now, please take a few moments to register your child on www.mybooster.com or click on the QR code in the graphic below. There will be a drawing for a Chick fil A gift card for everyone who registers by March 24!

Whether your Spring Break plans include traveling overseas, heading to the ranch with friends like our family, or relaxing at home, I hope that you and your family enjoy this well-deserved break.

Sincerely,

Ashley
