Greetings, Middle School Families,
Exciting things are happening in the Middle School World Languages Department! Did you know that learning a second language can improve memory, problem-solving skills and multitasking abilities? In addition, with over 65 years of combined teaching experience, our middle school languages department focuses on enriching our students’ understanding and love of other cultures.
In Spanish 5, students are describing people using the correct form of adjectives. For example, a young man would say “Yo soy alto” while a young lady would say “Yo soy alta”, which means “I am tall”. Students in Spanish 6 are learning how to discuss their vacation activities using the past tense, and students in Spanish 7, are learning how to use different possessive adjectives. Finally, our Spanish 8 scholars are finding pictures of their favorite celebrities and describing what they are wearing during class time, while transitional Spanish students will be presenting their Hispanic Heritage Month projects.
Students in French 5 are learning how to say what they like to do and not like to do regarding leisure time, activities and hobbies. Our French 6 scholars are learning about French fashion, clothing, and shopping. The French 7 classes are enjoying studying French art and how to use the past tense, while students in French 8 are reading French literature and listening to and discussing music from French-speaking northern Africa.
We are so proud of our students and their success in acquiring a second language. The commitment our students have shown in navigating complex grammar, expanding their vocabulary, and working towards fluency is a testament to our teacher’s hard work and dedication.
Cordialmente,
Tamika R. Dees
