Greetings Middle School Families,

STEM was “blowing” through the Middle School this week!  Innovators in Mr. Henderson’s 6th grade Science class merged their Meteorology unit with creativity and ingenuity of engineering. The project entailed researching, brainstorming, fabricating, and testing vehicles entirely powered by the force of wind.  Designs ranged from hovercrafts, sailboats, fan boats, and wind powered cars. Students monitored performance using their ipad to calculate and compute the efficacy of their models.  Through this hands-on application, students dove deep into physics and engineering concepts such as propulsion, fluid dynamics, air resistance, aerodynamics, buoyancy, density, draft, and tracking. The future of STEM is definitely blowing full speed ahead in Mr. Henderson’s 6th Grade Science class!

Honor Choir:

Congratulations to Sixth Graders Ella McHugh and Achilles Stuckey. One-thousand 5th and 6th graders across Texas auditioned for the Elementary All State Honor Choir. Ella and Achilles were selected to represent Oakridge this summer in San Antonio in a 3-day clinic and performance with 160 other singers from around the state. Way to Go Ella and Achilles!
