Greetings Middle School Families,
Monday’s 80 degree temperature was the perfect weather for our Texas Winter Deans’ Day festivities! Our Deans pulled out all the stops, transforming the quad into a winter wonderland, complete with a dusting of fake snow and piles of powdered donut holes.
The coolest highlight of the day was our epic “fake” snowball fight, using plush, soft-impact snowballs, which allowed students, Deans, and teachers to face off in a high-energy battle of strategy and speed. Whether they were dodging a "frozen" snowball, battling at ping pong, or just enjoying the 80-degree wintry vibes with friends - everyone enjoyed the warm “snowy” sunshine. Deans’ Day is all about building community, having a blast, and proving that it’s never too warm for a proper winter showdown.
Black History Month
The Oakridge School proudly celebrates Black History Month - a time to honor the remarkable history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans. As a school community, we embrace this opportunity to educate and inspire our students, staff, and families regarding the rich legacy Black individuals have created in the United States and worldwide.
We continue this tradition by integrating black history into various aspects of our curriculum. Throughout February, students will engage in meaningful lessons and activities that explore the contributions of Black pioneers in areas such as politics, science, literature, sports, and the arts. Students in the Lower and Middle Schools will learn about Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Kehinde Wiley, and Faith Ringgold through art and research projects. At the same time, the Upper School’s Black Student Association has curated a series of events throughout the month.
We encourage families to continue learning about Black history and culture by exploring books, movies, music, museums, and websites together. Let’s unite to celebrate, learn, and honor the legacies that have helped shape our world!
