Dr. Sarah Schecter, Head of Lower School

May 22, 2026
Dear Lower School Parents,
Two beloved members of the Lower School team are retiring this year. Kari Derrick has dedicated forty years to The Oakridge School in various roles, most recently as Lower School aide. Belinda Nemec has served as our Reading Specialist for 19 years, bringing up hundreds of joyful, capable readers. We are sad to see Belinda and Kari go, but thankful for the time we had with each of them.
Day of Kindness was such a sweet way to end our school year. First grade students walked down to the ECC and delivered bracelets and letters to encourage and excite our kindergarteners. Second graders fanned out across the campus and picked up trash. Third graders brightened up so many people with their uplifting post-it notes. Fourth graders made calls or sent email messages to their grandparents, as well as writing letters of appreciation to our teachers, and everyone went home with full hearts.
The Oakridge Summer Reading Initiative this year will be implemented through an incentive program called "Bespoke Summer Book Bags." This program is designed as a personalized concierge service available to readers in all school divisions. Follow the link for details and to request a summer book bag.
I hope you have a lovely summer of family time and travel. I plan to travel to some national parks in the west. Summer goes fast, so see you soon!
Best,
Sarah Schecter
