Dr. Sarah Schecter, Head of Lower School

May 8, 2026

Dear Lower School Parents,

It is nice to have beautiful weather for Field Day and Fine Arts Night. It is a joy to see our students excel in athletics in the morning and in the arts later the same day. The Lower School halls are full of over 200 pieces of artwork by local, young artists. It looks amazing, and the students are so proud of their creations!

Our word of the month is Forgiveness. We talked in Parliament about how important it is to end the school year letting go of hurts, accepting apologies, making apologies, and not holding grudges. We talked about the freedom and joy that comes with forgiveness. It is encouraging to see how thoughtfully they listen and reflect.

As the year winds down, look for an opportunity to sign up for a teacher conference on one of the half days of the last week of school. Also, the Big Sale is the last week of school, when our fourth graders sell all of their outgrown toys and games to our younger students at rock bottom prices. (Don't worry, when your child is in fourth grade you can send it all back again.)

The Oakridge Summer Reading Initiative this year will be implemented through an incentive program called "Bespoke Summer Book Bags." This program is designed as a personalized concierge service available to readers in all school divisions. Follow the link for details and to request a summer book bag.

Registration for Summer at The Ridge 2026 is open! Get ready for a summer packed with exciting camps, creative projects, outdoor fun, and unforgettable adventures. Register now to secure your spot!

Warm regards,

Sarah Schecter
Head of Lower School

Summer Reading begins May 13!

Students in all divisions can check out a Bespoke Summer Reading Bag from the library. They’re welcome to pick their own books, or we can put together a selection for them.

Each bag will include a golden ticket for a raffle at the start of the school year. To enter, students can write one sentence or draw a picture inspired by something they read over the summer.

We’ll hold the raffle during the first week of school, with prizes like gift cards, art supplies, and more.

In July (date coming soon), students can return to the library to check out new books and decorate their bags. We’ll also have craft days, story time, special guests, and book-themed activities.

We hope everyone enjoys a summer full of reading.
