Dr. Sarah Schecter, Head of Lower School

January 30, 2026
Dear Lower School Parents,
What a crazy week this was! I hope you enjoyed the extra time with family and being at home. I am blessed to live in the same neighborhood as several family members, as well as across the street from a nice sledding hill. We enjoyed being together and sharing some meals and icy outings. I even made it to the rodeo in Fort Worth. There were only a few of us there, but it was exciting!
The Book Fair schedule has changed many times as snow days were added. Hopefully we will get all of the classes through early next week and it will be a big success. Thank goodness everyone is flexible. A big thank you to the Oakridge Parents’ Club and our volunteers who decorated, helped the children make selections, and ran the event. It is so much work, but the kids love it and it helps our school.
It was interesting to see the wide array of colleges represented for our College Shirt Day. The children were proud of their shirts and the schools they represented. It is always surprising at graduation to see their final selections.
Lower School families are invited to join the monthly ECC 1st Wednesday Chat. On February 4, special guest Joanne Franks, PhD, LPC-S, from Painted Reality Counseling, will speak about Sibling Relationships and Friendships.
We are thrilled to announce that beloved children's author, Jerry Pallotta, will be visiting The Oakridge School on February 11. He is a favorite among our students, and his popular Who Would Win series is always in high circulation at the Oakridge Library! Jerry Pallotta has been writing children's books for over 30 years and has published over 90 titles.
Students may have any of Jerry Pallotta's books autographed. If you choose to request an autograph, send your books to the Oakridge Library by February 9. Affix a note to each book with your child’s full name and teacher's name. This will help us ensure the autographed books are returned to the correct students. If you have any questions, please contact Patricia deWinter at pdewinter@theoakridgeschool.org.
Parent/Teacher Conference Day is February 27. Your child’s teacher will send sign-up information to you soon.
Warm regards,
Sarah Schecter
