Dear Oakridge Family,

I was fortunate enough to have many educators in my life who invested in me. Mr. LeMaster, my AP US History teacher, was the one who imbued in me a strong dedication to preparation. His assessments were tough and required each of us to take the time necessary to study well in advance. He would also assign readings that required detailed notes because he was notorious for randomly calling on students to participate in discussions.

Mr. Jones, my band director, taught me the importance of: “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to be left.” Mrs. Bishop, my 6th-grade Social Studies teacher, taught me the importance of injecting humor into the classroom to keep us engaged. We had three “Matts” in my class, and she affectionately named us “Door Matt, Place Matt, and Table Matt.” To this day, my friends from 6th grade still call me Place (I’m just glad I wasn’t Door!).

There are so many others, and so many more stories I could share, but the point is this: teachers make a life-changing difference for our young people.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Oakridge. If you haven’t had a chance to do so yet, please reach out and thank your teachers. We have a phenomenal group of educators at our school, and the best thing we can do is recognize them for their hard work and dedication to such a noble craft.

Warmly,

Matt Burgy
Head of School

P.S. Our Annual Golf Tournament is on May 18th! If you are able to join us, please do. If you can serve as a sponsor, thank you! The funds we receive from the tournament are distributed to our Arts faculty and Athletic coaches to support and improve their programs.
