Dear Oakridge Family,
One of the world’s foremost experts in cryptocurrency trading. A software engineer who founded his own company and is now a part-owner of a soccer team. A renowned educational leader who struggled to read until his junior year. These were just three of the Oakridge alums that I had the pleasure of meeting while in New York City, traveling with our choir during their bi-annual trek to sing at Carnegie Hall.
As I listened to their stories, I was struck not by the destination they eventually reached, but by the winding, distinct paths they each took to get there. It was a powerful reminder that our mission at Oakridge is not a one-size-fits-all roadmap; it is a compass for a unique journey.
When I looked at our students on that Carnegie Hall stage, surrounded by the history of music and the weight of that experience, I saw our mission in action. They were not just performing; they were building character, cultivating confidence, and learning that they are capable of achieving excellence in spaces far beyond the classroom.
We often talk about the "Oakridge difference," but it is most visible in stories like these. Whether it is a student finding their voice through the arts, pushing their limits on the field, or overcoming the “productive struggle” in our classrooms we try to teach, we are here to nurture and challenge them every step of the way.
As we approach the end of the school year, let us keep these stories in mind. Whether your child is currently striving for that academic breakthrough or finding their passion on the stage or field, please know that they are exactly where they need to be. They are on their unique journey, and we are honored to walk that path alongside them.
Please join me on Monday, April 27, at 8:00 AM on the Bridge for another “Morning with Matt,” where I’ll be discussing a wide variety of topics in the education space and how Oakridge is addressing them!
Warmly,
Matt Burgy
Head of School
