Dear ECC Families,

Welcome back and we hope that your Winter Break was relaxing, restful and enjoyable. Unfortunately, I caught the flu and spent some of my days in bed, but I am grateful I was still able to mix in some family fun. In fact, I traveled to Fredericksburg for my cousin’s 40th birthday. If you have not had the chance to visit the Texas Hill Country, I would add it to your bucket list. It is a gorgeous part of our state and not too long of a drive.

This week's “Thought of the Week” was on celebrating differences. Everyone is unique, both in appearance and action. We all have different attributes—some people are tall, others are short; some have loud voices, others are quiet. These variations are what make us special! We encourage students to use their words and actions to make others feel good about the qualities that make them different.

Each year, students in the Early Childhood Center take part in “Preview Day.” Preview Day is when they travel with their classmates to the next grade level to get a taste of what is to come in their Oakridge journey. The students enjoyed meeting next year’s teachers, playing games, and hearing about the fun activities to come. Be sure to ask your child about Preview Day.

January 26 - 30: Save-the-Date for the Oakridge Book Fair.

January 30: STEM Showcase and All-School College T-Shirt/Sweatshirt Day:

You are invited to attend our annual STEM Showcase on January 30. This event takes place from 8:00 - 9:15 a.m. in the Student Activity Center (SAC) on main campus. Students in grades 5 - 8 will be presenting on a variety of STEM topics and will have hands-on presentations to share with you and our students. Additionally, students are invited to wear college t-shirts/sweatshirts and casual bottoms (skirts, shorts, jeans) on January 30 to lean into the portion of our mission statement that centers around being a college preparatory school. Tennis shoes, only.

Warm regards,

Ashley Read, Oakridge Class of 2005
Head of Early Childhood
