Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers to work at the 2023 Book Fair. Please review the available slots on the Sign Up Genius and click on the button to sign up. Thank you!

General volunteers each day will help students create their wish lists when younger classes visit the book fair.  They will also be available to assist older students who come by to shop. Any volunteer who works both morning and afternoon shifts in a single day will be provided with lunch.  There will be snacks and water available for all volunteers throughout the day.

For those choosing to work as a cashier, there will be a short training session on Friday afternoon (TBD) with the Scholastic Rep.  There are new procedures for gift cards and eWallets so everyone must attend the training, even if you've done it before.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the Book Fair Chair, Shelley Hodges (OPCBookFair@theoakridgeschool.org)

Book Fair General Information

The book fair is sponsored by The Oakridge Parents’ Club each January. This event allows all our students and families to purchase books, which in turn, raises funds for the library. It’s a win-win! All the proceeds raised during the book fair go directly to The Oakridge School library in the form of new books and funds to purchase things like new furniture and take-home kit supplies. Oakridge is honored to be one of just a few schools to host a Signature Fair, which is Scholastic’s largest fair. We have books for EVERY age, from toddlers to adults. There is something for everyone.

WHEN TO SHOP:

• The book fair is open each day, Monday – Thursday, from 7:30 – 4:00

• On Friday’s early dismissal day, we will close at 12:30.

• Thursday will have extended shopping hours for parents, grandparents, or friends to shop with their students. We will host a Breakfast & Books event Thursday from 7:00 – 8:00 that morning, and then that afternoon we will have Family Night from 4:00 – 6:00. We will have refreshments and fun activities to enjoy during your time in the library.

Each ECC, LS, and MS student will have time during the week to visit the book fair with their class. Students will be allowed to purchase books during this time if they choose. They can also choose to make a wish list and/or complete a scavenger hunt during that time if they prefer to shop with an adult another time during book fair hours. More information will be sent home closer to the week of book fair for families to decide how and when they would like to shop. Be on the lookout for that flyer and envelope to come home soon. Any student may shop before or after school during regular hours (7:30 – 4:00) with parent’s permission.

Scholastic has several ways you can pay for books at the book fair. We accept cash, credit cards, and checks made out to OPC. There is also a Scholastic eWallet option available. It works like an online gift card that can be spent at the fair.
