College selection is one of the more important decisions of a student’s life (so far). The college advising office strives to provide students with all the tools necessary to make college decision-making simpler and less mysterious.
The college advisor assists students in preparing for and selecting colleges best suited for their individual talents, interests, and needs. The heart of the Oakridge college advising philosophy is fit. The college match means different things to different people: this is normal. Ultimately, we have discussions about where students see themselves thriving and what path they might take to achieve personal and professional goals. Students are encouraged to keep an open mind as they travel this road. There are thousands of colleges out there. Students and families may not have heard of them all, but there might be one out there that aligns perfectly with a student’s ambitions.
Ongoing communication is highly valued in the college admission process. We feel strongly about the partnership required during these pre-college days and take our roles as facilitators seriously. The college advising office handles all supplemental materials in a college application: transcripts, recommendations, the school profile, and other items a college may request. The advisor will write the official recommendation from the school to the college. In addition, the college advising office arranges for college representatives to visit the campus and can help students arrange visits to college campuses.
The college advising office uses Family Connection by Naviance to help manage the college process. Students and parents alike use this tool for planning.
Students applying to private (and some public) universities will likely need The Common Application; those applying to Texas public (and some private) universities use Apply Texas.
